Fry up the bacon until just brown. Drain bacon in a plate lined with paper towels.
While bacon is frying, wash, trim and halve your green beans. Place in a medium saucepan with a lid.
Place pan on stove and pour over the broth or stock to cover the beans. If you need more liquid you could just add a few tablespoons of cold fresh water.
Heat pan over medium high heat.
Halve the bacon slices and then chop them into 1/2" pieces. Add to the beans.
Throw in your dash of red pepper flakes. Stir.
Cover pan and bring to a boil. Lower heat to simmer and cook for 20-30 minutes (desired tenderness). If you like 'em firmer cook for about 10-12 minutes, but there will be a little less flavor. Add green onions the last minute or two if using.
When done grind some fresh black pepper, stir and serve!
